Steps to reproduce

Just use the v-bind shorthand to bind the is property: <component :is>.

What is expected?

Should function the same as <component :is="is">.

What is actually happening?

Warning is produced:

Failed to resolve component: component
If this is a native custom element, make sure to exclude it from component resolution via compilerOptions.isCustomElement.
