Description of the problem or steps to reproduce

using the runtime/syntax/markdown.yaml from this git repo raises error:
Error parsing syntax file markdown: interface conversion: interface {} is nil, not []interface {}

to reproduce, just copy this file to ~/.config/micro/syntax/ and run micro

to workaround, i add rules: [] to the section with start/end.

Hm, more or less easy to explain:
The removal of the empty rules: [] was introduced with #3458 like the support of it too.
These "new" rules are compatible with the master resp. nightly only, since there is no new 2.0.15 release yet.
Using them with the actual release is expected to fail.

For your release you should use the one included in the v2.0.14 tag:

micro/runtime/syntax/markdown.yaml

Edit:
Looking back by having this scenario in mind (using a modified scheme with the last release) it would have been smarter by holding back the scheme adaptation to the next release after the logic is already used in a release.
