govc: import.ova into datastore cluster

Hi All,

i would like to import an OVA file into a datastore cluster. So far i can only import into a datastore.

Is it plan to implement this feature or is it already implemented and i'm just too stupid to find it?

hi @dougm Would you be able to advise if this feature request has a roadmap item to add to govc. It would be quite useful as I'm having a need to import OVA files to the cluster. Not sure if an export GOVC_DATASTORE_CLUSTER= variable would help to add this into the code

We can add it at some point. In the meantime, you could automate datastore choice with the most free space for example:

% govc object.collect -type s /dc1/datastore/ds-cluster summary.freeSpace | sort -k4nr | head -1 | awk '{print $1}' | xargs govc ls -L

This issue is stale because it has been open for 90 days with no

inactivity. Mark as fresh by adding the comment /remove-lifecycle stale.

This issue was created a long time ago, is this functionality something you are considering implementing in the future?

The solution of piping object.collect into ls is great for a script, but when govc is called by another tool, it's not something you can always do.

With #3763 , the -ds option can be a datastore cluster. The datastore with the most free space is chosen. We can improve on this of course, suggestions welcome. Example:

%  govc import.ova -ds /dc1/datastore/ds-cluster ... my-vapp.ova
