Question Bank

Learn how to use these commonly used builder blocks below. Tip: Remember, you can edit any builder blocks.

Story Title

The Story Title is a text entry field that lets the storyteller name their story. It’s a good idea to include this field on your questionnaire if you want submitted stories to have unique names provided by the storytellers. Stories submitted without a Story Title field are named “Untitled” by default.

Story Ask

A story ask displays a prompt for the storyteller and a corresponding text entry field for the storyteller to submit a narrative response.

When you select either story ask, two elements appear on the questionnaire you’re building:

The first element is the Story Ask prompt displayed to the storyteller. By default this field says Please tell your story here. You can leave this default text in place or write your own prompt message.

The second element is the editable text field, used by the storyteller to submit the story.

Tip: You can choose whether to include a rich text or plain text editable text field for the Story Ask. Click the pencil to make the block editable. In the Format field, select (Multiple Lines) Rich Text or (Multiple Lines) Plain Text.

Rich Text vs. PlainText - what’s the difference? The Rich Text Editor offers storytellers a choice of formatting options including text size, font and color. The Plain (or Paragraph) Text Editor doesn’t provide formatting options.

Contact Information

The next options are questions for collecting contact information from storytellers:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email
  • Phone
Tip: You can add up to three email and four phone number builder blocks to your questionnaire. To add more than one email or phone number block, make sure you choose a different Contact type from the menu in the block's edit mode. Notice that the default question prompt does not change; whether you choose Home, Work or Other as the contact type, the prompt simply reads Phone or Email. It's up to you to label the block with the contact type you're requesting.
  • Street Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip Code

How stori.es Uses Contact Information. Contact information blocks are used to populate the storyteller's profile on the storyteller detail page. Collecting storytellers’ location information also enables you to benefit from the stori.es map view feature (accesible from the collection and questionnaire detail pages) as well as giving you the ability to sort stories by city, state, and zip code. The address information collected affects a story’s map location. In the map view, when a specific address is not known, but the city, state or zip code is, the story marker is placed at the center of the more general location.

Email Options

The last two options in the Standard menu let the storyteller indicate preferences for any story-related emails sent by your organization.

Subscription

Gives storytellers the option to check a box to indicate they would like to receive email from your organization.

Email Format

Gives storytellers the option to receive emails from your organization as either plain text or rich text. Tip: You can add other email options for storytellers to choose from. Click the pencil to make the block editable. In the Options field, customize the choices.
